The Commission
The Commission is a government committee appointed following the Sami Parliament’s petition. Its members were appointed by the Government, following consultation with the Sami Parliament. The Commission is an independent and autonomous body. Its members take decisions on the work, which is led by the chair, and are responsible for proposals. The Commission meets approximately every six to eight weeks.
The Secretariat
The Secretariat administers the Commission’s work and prepares its decisions. The Secretariat’s responsibilities include investigative work, arranging meetings and conducting personal interviews.
Conversational meetings in Sápmi
Beginning in 2023, the Commission will invite people to meetings in Swedish Sápmi and some locations in southern Sweden. The meetings aim to disseminate information about our mission, hear people’s views and suggestions, and solidify our work with the Sami people. The idea is for the meetings to be informal and promote conversation where participants have the possibility for reflection and dialogue about the Commission’s inquiry. Another important aim is to inform people that they can share their story in a personal interview.
